The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Design and Technologies Technician (0.6 FTE) to join our Secondary team at Carey Harrisdale. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves working with tools, materials, and machinery – and is keen to play a behind-the-scenes but essential role in supporting our creative and practical learning environments.
You’ll be working closely with our Technologies teaching staff to support hands-on learning across areas like metalwork, woodwork, electronics, CAD/CAM and general workshop safety. Your work will ensure our learning spaces are safe, organised, and ready to inspire the next generation of makers, designers, and problem-solvers.
This role is available to start on 13 October 2025, with days negotiable across a 3-day working week.
What Matters Most
At Carey, we don’t just care about what happens in the classroom — we care about what enables it. The Technician role is critical to creating learning environments where students can take creative risks, work with real-world tools, and build practical skills in a space that’s clean, safe, and well-resourced.
Whether you're experienced in education or coming from industry, we’re looking for someone with initiative, great attention to detail, and a deep sense of pride in their work. If you love supporting others, troubleshooting issues, and keeping things running smoothly — this could be your perfect fit.
What You Will Bring:
- Practical, hands-on skills in workshop environments (metalwork, woodwork, machinery)
- An understanding of (or willingness to learn) CAD, CNC and design software
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- A safety-first mindset with knowledge of OHS practices and materials handling
- A team-first, service-oriented approach with the ability to work independently
- A heart for supporting young people in a Christ-centred school community
Experience working in a school environment is desirable but not essential – we’ll provide training where needed.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Preparing tools, materials and resources for lessons (Years 7–12)
- Maintaining machinery, hand tools and safety systems (dust extraction, PPE, etc.)
- Assisting teachers in practical lessons and demonstrations
- Ordering and managing stock, supplies and purchase records
- Cleaning and resetting workshops, storerooms and finishing areas
- Supporting school events, exhibitions, and D&T-related community projects
